How to Apply

We have a simple 3 step process to apply for a position with the Department of State Hospitals as a Police Officer.
Step 1: Get a CalCareers Account
You need to create a CalCareers account so that we can guide you through the rest of the process. Once you have a account created you can move on to step 2.

Step 2: Register and Take the Exam
Now that you have created a CalCareers account, It's time to register for the exam. Registration only takes a few minutes. The Exam is 100% online.

Step 3: Apply
Once you have registered for the exam we will guide you through the rest of the process via email. Make sure that you check your junk mail. Future notifications will come from recruit@dsh.ca.gov. After you pass, we will send you an email to choose your location.

Pay & BENEFITS

Our Correctional Officers receive a starting pay of $40,250 / year and have the ability to move up to Master Sergeant in 1 year at $46,532 / year.

Minimum Qualifications
18+ years old, U.S. citizen, high school diploma or GED, no felony convictions after the age of 18, successfully pass a background investigation and a physical assessment.
